DMV now accepting applications for new Real IDs

There’s a new California license rolling out and the DMV is accepting applications for people who want one.

These new licenses are called  Real IDs.

After the 9/11 attacks, Congress passed a law requiring licenses used to board U.S. flights be equipped with enhanced security features, but DMV officials say not everyone needs to apply.

You’ll still be able to use a passport, military ID, or other federally approved document.

If you’d like to apply you’ll need to bring proof of identity with you to the DMV that includes proof of your Social Security number, and proof you live in California.

You don’t need a Real ID until October 2020.
