The California Department of Motor Vehicles is trying to ease wait times across the state by expanding office hours.
Beginning Monday, July 16, the Southwest Bakersfield DMV on Schirra Court will open at 7 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
The office will still open at 9 a.m. on Wednesdays and close at 5 p.m. daily.
The Downtown Bakersfield location on F Street will be open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Aug. 4, but driving tests will not be available on Saturdays.
Customers applying for a Real ID should visit realid.dmv.ca.gov to make sure you bring the required documents.
The California DMV began offering a federal compliant Real ID driver’s license or ID card as an option to customers on Jan. 22, 2018.
Beginning Oct. 1, 2020, the card will be required to board a domestic flight, enter a military base or enter most federal buildings.
If you have a valid U.S. Passport, passport card, military ID or another form of Transportation Safety Administration-approved identification, these documents will still be accepted to board a domestic flight.
