The Distinguished Young Women program encourages high school juniors to get involved in their communities while empowering themselves.
Ladies from all across California will compete in Bakersfield this weekend in categories including scholastics, fitness, talent, self expression and interview skills, each contestant bringing their own talents and shine to the stage.
The lucky lady named the Distinguished Young Woman of California will receive a cash scholarship as well as opportunities for college-granted scholarships.
Two young ladies, Rebecca Strasser from Garces Memorial High School and Megan Baytsoh from Centennial High School, will be representing Kern County this weekend.
The Distinguished Young Women showcase is set to take place Friday and Saturday night at the Dore Theatre located on the CSU Bakersfield campus. The event starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 for kids and $20 for adults.
