California candidates for governor squared off in a debate in San Jose Tuesday night.
The debate brought together the top contenders in the crowded field:
Democrats: Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, State Treasurer John Chiang and former Superintendent of Public Instruction Delaine Eastin.
Republicans: John Cox, a wealthy businessman, and assemblyman Travis Allen.
As expected, immigration was a by far the hottest-button issue between the liberals and conservatives on opposite sides.
