A man is dead following an officer-involved shooting in Delano.
It happened before 9 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 31.
Delano police said two officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle parked within the alleyway of the 2200 block of Norwalk Street, near 22nd Avenue.
Police said as the officers approached the vehicle, it began accelerating toward one of the officers. The officer fired at the vehicle, striking and killing the driver.
According to officers, a passenger within the vehicle fled into a nearby home, but an hour later, exited the home and was taken into custody. The person’s identity has not been released at this time.
Delano police said the two officers are being placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. The case is being investigated by the Kern County District Attorney’s Office.
This officer-involved shooting marked the 100th homicide in Kern County this year. That is the most in one year.
