Tense moments for concertgoers Sunday night. A man stabbed to death outside the Fox Theater as the crowd poured into the streets of downtown Bakersfield.
We first told you about the stabbing Sunday night on 17 News at 11 p.m., just minutes after the first calls came in to 9-1-1. Emotions ran high as our crews captured the scene unfold.
Maria Toscano covered in blood, cried uncontrollably as her fiance, Kasey Villegas, 19, was taken away in an ambulance. Family members pushed behind a police line, frantic for answers.
The couple was at the Bone Thugs-n-Harmony concert when a fight broke out. Toscano’s mother said her pregnant daughter was dragged to the ground as Villegas was stabbed. His blood poured onto the sidewalk.
Bakersfield Police Sgt. Glen Davis said, “He was suffering from multiple stab wounds. they began first aid on him until ambulance arrived. he was taken to Kern Medical where he was pronounced deceased at a later time.”
Villegas and Toscano were expecting their first child in May — a baby girl. They planned to get married after she is born. Now, the young mother coping with the unimaginable loss.
No suspect information has been released. Little is known about why the fight started.
Our records show Villegas was once on the other side of another stabbing. In 2013, he was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder — accused of stabbing another teen. His brother and mother were also arrested. His mother took a plea deal was sentenced to a year in jail for being an accessory.
