The Kern County District Attorney’s Office has found officers were justified in a shooting that left a two officers wounded and another man dead nearly a year ago.
The shooting took place on Aug. 30, 2017 where Bakersfield police officers Matthew Johnson and Joshua Deutinger came under fire while investigating a home in the 600 block of Pacheco Road.
Both officers were struck by multiple bullets but survived. Johnson fired back, killing the suspected shooter Isaac Cervantes.
The DA’s review concluded Cervantes tried to kill the officers and shots fired by officers were in self-defense.
A Bakersfield police review completed in January determined all shots fired by officers were within department, state and federal guidelines.
