Man pleads no contest to voluntary manslaughter in East Bakersfield shooting

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man arrested in April in the shooting death of a man in East Bakersfield has pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter.

Oscar Valero, 48, faces a six-year prison term at his sentencing hearing next year. Charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon were dismissed.

Police arrested Valero on April 10 in the death of Richard Thomas Luevano, 43. Luevano’s body was found at a home near near East 3rd and Augusta streets.
