UPDATE: 2 arrested in shooting, carjacking that led to standoff; 1 suspect still at large

UPDATE (12 p.m.): The Bakersfield Police Department said two people have been arrested in connection with a shooting and carjacking that led to this morning’s standoff.

The department said the incident that occurred at around 1:30 a.m. this morning in the 900 block of Meredith Drive. No one was injured in the shooting, according to BPD.

Two suspects were arrested and a third fled the area, the department said. During the course of the investigation, officers determined the suspect was connected to the residence on Wible Road. Officers attempted to make contact with the suspect at the residence, according to police.

SWAT teams were eventually called in to assist with the standoff. However, BPD said it was later determined that the suspect was not in the residence. Officers have now left the residence.

The suspect has been described as being a white or Hispanic man in his 20s with facial tattoos. He was wearing a white shirt. Anyone with information on the suspect’s location is urged to call BPD at 661-327-7111.


BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — There’s a large police presence in the area of Wible Road and Panama Lane in southwest Bakersfield.

Several police units are outside of a nearby home. Witnesses say police were calling someone inside the home to come out. A SWAT team has been called out to the residence.
