UPDATE: KCSO identifies human remains discovered in Lamont home

UPDATE (10/19): The Kern County Sheriff’s Office has identified the remains as 24-year-old Maricruz Mendoza.


UPDATE (10/16/2020, 7:13 p.m.) — Two men who were detained and questioned in connection to human remains found at a Lamont home, have been arrested for murder, the sheriff’s office said.

KCSO identified the two men as Jose Maldonado, 47, and Antonio Barraza, 37. The two have been booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of murder, possession of a firearm by a felon and conspiracy.

Deputies in Lamont were called to the home on Elmco Avenue for a missing person investigation and found the body and detained Maldonado and Barraza.

The cause and manner of death will be released by the Kern County Coroner’s Office.

Maldonado and Barraza are due in court on Oct. 20, according to a Kern County inmate database.

UPDATE (10/16/2020 1:45 P.M.) — KCSO said a homicide investigation is underway after human remains were found in Lamont. A follow-up report on a missing person led deputies to the area of Elmco Avenue and Bonita Road where the remains were discovered.

KCSO said two people were detained, but are not considered suspects at this time. The two people will be questioned, according to KCSO.


LAMONT, Calif. (KGET) — Human remains have been found in Lamont, according to the sheriff’s office.

The remains were located in the 10000 block of Elmco Avenue, officials said. Homicide detectives have been called to the scene.
