Crashed drones found at Kern Valley State Prison

News

It’s no secret that contraband going into state prisons is an ongoing issue.

Here in Kern County it’s no different and it turns out prisoners may be using new technology to get prohibited items at Kern Valley State Prison.

According to court documents, officials at Kern Valley State Prison in Delano are investigating incidents where drowns crashed into the prison with baggies of contraband. One incident took place in September and one just last month.

According to warrants, one downed drone was carrying multiple cell phones, phone chargers, and sim cards. Whoever was flying the drone had attempted to avoid detection by covering it’s lights with black tape. Along with it’s camera, the drone also had a modified release mechanism.

According to the California Department of Corrections, unauthorized drones crashing on prison grounds and seen flying overhead is an increasing issue throughout prisons in the state.
