A two-vehicle crash involving a Kern County Sheriff’s patrol car sent five people to the hospital including a deputy.
It happened at 1:15 p.m. Saturday on West Niles Street and Union Avenue.
KCSO says the deputy was assisting with a traffic stop. The deputy was reportedly clearing the roadway in the patrol car with the sirens on. The deputy was driving westbound on Niles Street when the patrol was struck by an SUV going southbound on Union Avenue, according to KCSO.
The deputy and the two people inside the SUV sustained moderate injuries.
Two pedestrians who were nearby were struck by debris from the crash, they suffered minor injuries.
Everyone involved was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
The Bakersfield Police Department is investigating.
