New details in a deadly shooting outside a bar on Buck Owens Boulevard. The county coroner identified Ricardo Viera, 56, as the man who was shot to death.

The shooting happened Saturday afternoon outside Boss Cocktails — a bar attached to Zingo’s Café — where a bike wash was reportedly being held. It appeared to start as an argument between two biker groups before it became deadly.

Police also said a man claiming to be the shooter later called them and was taken into custody. He was released and police haven’t said why.

According to court records, Viera was involved in another very public fight in January 2016 involving a rival motorcycle gang. Police said a man accused of having connections to the Hells Angels got into a fight with Viera at Rosedale Highway and Calloway Drive. At the time, police said the fight also involved the Mongols motorcycle gang.

By our count, there have been 37 homicides in Kern County so far this year. Last year at this time there were 30. It went on the be the deadliest year on record.
