The Kern County Coroner’s Office says the 2-month-old boy of a Tehachapi couple died of head injuries and ruled the baby’s death as a homicide.
The coroner said Abel James Norwood died of blunt head injuries on Oct. 24. A week earlier, sheriff’s deputies were called to a trailer park in Tehachapi where Abel was found with multiple injuries.
Abel was taken to Kern Medical and transferred to Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera where he died.
The infant’s parents, 29-year-old Matthew Norwood and 28-year-old Brittney Collins were both arrested and later charged with two felony counts of assault on a child causing paralysis or a coma.
The couple is due back in court in Mojave on Wednesday.
