Coroner identifies woman killed during search for wanted fugitive

News

A woman killed during an officer-involved shooting and the search of a wanted man has been identified, as the fugitive awaits a court date on Friday.

The search ended Tuesday at Brundage Lane and Oswell Street in East Bakersfield.

The woman killed was identified as 21-year-old Stephanie Quiroz. It’s unclear how Quiroz died. The coroner’s office is investigating.

U.S. Marshals said they were searching for Gavino Castro. Castro’s brother, Rolando, and Quiroz were all in the car when it crashed.

Investigators say a U.S. Marshal shot their weapon at some point before or during the chase.

Rolando Castro was released from jail after posting bail.

Gavino Castro is due in court Friday.
