Locals celebrated the 208th Mexican Independence Day this weekend. The fun kicked off Saturday night with dancing, mariachi, and lots of tacos on hand.
For the sixth year in a row, the El Grito de Dolores took place in front of the Liberty Bell. It’s a re-enactment of Mexico’s Cry of Independence, an act that originally took place in 1810 marking Mexico’s independence from Spain.
The Mexican holiday was actually Sunday, but the festivities start the night before.
The Kern County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce organizes the local event, emceed by our Telemundo anchors Norma and Jose Gaspar.
