COLD CASE: Officials make arrest in 1979 murder of Dawn Koons

On Thursday morning, District Attorney Lisa Green and Bakersfield Police Chief Lyle Martin held a press conference in regards to the murder Dawn Koons, who was murdered 39 years ago.

Police arrested Prentice Foreman, of Bakersfield for the murder of Coons, who was 18 at the time. 

On January 16, 1979 officers with the Bakersfield Police Department were dispatched to 2220 South Real Road for a victim of a homicide.

The victim, identified as Dawn Koons was found strangled inside her apartment and it appeared as if she was the victim of a sexual assault.
