City selects construction company for 24th Street widening project

A contractor has been chosen for the latest phase of the 24th Street widening project.

The city has been looking at bids for 24th Street operational improvements, and according to the Bakersfield City Manager’s weekly memo, the city council is expected to award the contract for $28 million to the Griffith Company at its Wednesday meeting.

The project includes the expansion of the intersection of 24th and Oak streets, adding more turn lanes and widening 24th Street to six lanes between Elm and C streets.

Construction is expected to take 14 months.
