The Bakersfield City Council extended a school resource pilot program where police officers are assigned to the Bakersfield City School District.
Under the program, four Bakersfield police officers will now be assigned to the district instead of two.
The goal is to reduce truancy, violence, bullying and other problems.
The city council and school district agreed to extend the program for one year with the option to extend it again to 2021. The district will pay the city $6,000 per officer every two weeks.
