CHP warns scammers are posing as disabled motorists on Central Valley roads

The CHP has a message to watch out for scammers, posing as disabled motorists.

It’s not weather-related, officers say it’s been happening in Bakersfield and other parts of the Central Valley since mid-November.

Officials say people pose as disabled motorists to get money from other motorists trying to help. The vehicles used in the scam have been described as dark-colored SUVs with out of state license plates.

The CHP says the scammers ask some people to go to ATMs, then get aggressive if they refuse.

If you ever come in contact with someone you suspect is trying to scam you like this, you can call the CHP at 559-262-0400.
