CHP says its officers across California were busy during its Independence Day Maximum Enforcement Period, on average, making a DUI arrest every five minutes.

During a 30-hour period from starting Tuesday, CHP officers made a total of 389 DUI arrests across the state.

Officials also said 18 people died in collisions over the enforcement period. CHP didn’t specify how many of those were directly related to DUI-related crashes.

As of now, Bakersfield CHP and Bakersfield police have not released local DUI arrest numbers.
