CHP: At least 1 killed in Highway 43 crash near Stockdale Highway

UPDATE (Oct. 22): The Kern County coroner identified the man from Fresno as 27-year-old Mario Ruiz.

Ruiz’s car collided with another car near Munzer Road.

The other driver was identified as 39-year-old Francisco Morales. He suffered major injuries in the crash.

A driver from Fresno was killed following a head-on crash along Highway 43 near Stockdale Highway on Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened just after 4 p.m. on State-Route 43, south of Munzer Road, according to California Highway Patrol.

CHP officers say Francisco Morales, 39, of Bakersfield, was traveling southbound on Enos Lane, south of Munzer Road. For unknown reasons, Morales’ car left the roadway and then he lost control, according to CHP. The car collided into the front of a Nissan traveling north on Enos Lane.

The driver of the Nissan, a 27-year-old from Fresno, died as a result of the crash. Their identity has not been released.

Morales suffered major injuries, according to CHP.

Drugs and or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this crash, CHP reported.
