Celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month around Kern County

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and the Kern Behavioral Health and Recovery Services is celebrating with a list of events and activities designed to increase awareness and eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health.

One in five people will be affected by mental health or substance use issues in their lifetime. To kick off the events, the board of supervisors will host a presentation on mental health.

Consumer Family Learning Center Anniversary Celebration and Resource Fair
May 3, 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at 2001 28th Street, Bakersfield 93301
Everyone is invited for free food, games, kids activities and karaoke.
Help us celebrate recovery and mental health awareness as we kick off Mental Health
Awareness Month with an anniversary party for the Consumer Family Learning Center!

When Illness Becomes Wellness Art Show
The 2018 Month of Art “When Illness becomes Wellness” is a compilation of inspiring artwork created by consumers and local artists.  This collection is dedicated to raise awareness about how art enhances well-being and stimulates positive change.

May 9-30: at The Bakersfield Fox Theater
May 1-31: Guild House (1905 18th St.)

May 30 6:00 p.m. at the Bakersfield Fox Theater (2001 H Street)
Tickets must be picked up in advance. Dress to impress.
