One person reportedly sustained major injuries after a car ended up in a canal southwest of Bakersfield.
California Highway Patrol responded to a canal on Herring Road, one mile east of Wible Road after a car ended up in the canal.
The accident happened when a Honda attempted to pass an SUV on the dirt shoulder. The SUV made a U-turn into the car, pushing it into the canal, according to CHP Officer Sally Barker.
When 17News arrived to the scene, a person was being treated in an ambulance. Crews on scene asked a farmer nearby to help pull the ambulance out of the mud after getting stuck.
The person was transported to Kern Medical. Seven other people involved did not sustain injuries.
