CAPK offers tax filing assistance highlighting earned income tax credit

Friday is National Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Day and CAPK worked to make sure people knew about the special tax break to help them get a lot of money back.

The earned income tax credit is a break that can give money back to families making less than $54,000 a year.

CAPK’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program walked people through their returns and offered advice on how to take advantage of the credit.

“Our big focus is making sure that people that qualify for earned income credit get that earned income credit,” volunteer Sandi Truman said.

But remember, you won’t start seeing changes to tax laws until next year.

Your returns this year are all based on last year’s codes.

The volunteer income tax assistance program is year round and you can schedule an appointment over the phone. You can dial 211 and follow the instructions.
