For over 20 years, Camp Hamilton has offered deep pit turkey dinners for its members and friends of the camp, and they’re getting ready for another Thanksgiving.
This year, they’re expecting to cook about 50 turkeys on Wednesday night.
They take thawed turkeys, wrap them up and seal them into the deep pit to cook overnight.
Camp caretaker Tim Hill says on Thanksgiving morning, people line up to take their turkeys home freshly cooked.
Hill says they cook the turkeys at no cost to the families, but they do ask for donations.
The tradition began with the founder of Camp Hamilton Master Gunnery Sgt. Glenn Denton.
Camp Hamiltoon is located at 34999 Lerdo Highway.
