A 26-year-old man is under arrest following an intense standoff in California City. Officers said the man threatened to set off a suicide bomb.
California City police arrested Shane Weber after a standoff that ended at around 5 a.m. Thursday morning.
It started Wednesday afternoon on Mitchell Boulevard near the California City Airport.
Police said Weber was reported making threats with a gun, and when officers arrived, Weber threatened to blow them up with a suicide vest.
Police evacuated nearby homes and blocked off roads.
Police said just before midnight, small explosions were seen going off in the home.
Kern County SWAT team deputies captured Weber as he allegedly made his escape five hours later.
Weber was booked in the Kern County Jail for attempted murder, and weapons and explosives charges.
