Burglars steal thousands in equipment from Volunteer Center of Kern County

News

The Volunteer Center of Kern County has been hit by thieves again.

The center which sits on Eye Street near 13th Street, had up to $3,000 worth of equipment stolen from the garage, according to executive director Brenda Ratliff.

Ratliff says the break-in happened between Friday and Monday, adding the center has been hit several times in the last two months.

They chopped and hacked the building to get through [a] door. They tried to get in through the alley, but then they came in the side, dismantled our gate that is padlocked, took it off the hinges and came in and took all of our power equipment, our tools, our weedeater, Ratliff said.

The center is asking for donations to replace the equipment, as well as yard chairs and pop-up canopy tents.

You can call and find out more about what the center needs at 395-9787.
