Nearly 20 members of the Bakersfield Police Department were celebrated for moving up the ranks today.
A promotion ceremony took place at City Hall in front of family and friends and was led by Chief Lyle Martin.
One new detective shared his hopes of his new position at the department.
“Its very humbling. I know there’s a lot expected of detectives,” Det. John Bishop said. “I hope I have some of the experience that can help victims out, and close some cases out. I hope to have a good impact on the unit I’m assigned at and the community as well.”
In all, 18 policemen were promoted Tuesday to senior officers, detectives and sergeants.
The department saw one man promoted to lieutenant and a civilian promotion.
