Body cameras could be coming to the Bakersfield Police Department.
Chief Lyle Martin is scheduled Monday to discuss the possibility of his officers wearing body cameras. Martin is expected to present the findings from a BPD study on the equipment.
Last summer, the NAACP asked the city council to reconsider the need for body cameras in the wake of the Bakersfield Police Department’s confrontation with a 19-year-old.
Martin has previously said he supports police body cameras. He said a captain was assigned to looking into the technology and the fiscal impacts.
