Kern County Board of Supervisors are set to vote on a contract with ride-share service Lyft, allowing drivers who use the service, to pick up passengers at Bakersfield Meadows Field Airport.

Currently, there’s a little-known Kern County policy that prohibits ride-sharing apps from taking fares directly at the airport.

For Lyft or Uber, the closest pick-up or drop-off spot is about a half mile away, at Merle Haggard Drive and Wings Way.

The proposed agreement would go into effect Sept. 15 if approved and would be renewed every year, according to its terms and conditions.

The board is set to vote at their Sept. 11 meeting.
