Bike Bakersfield is reaching out to the public to spread the word about a new web-based platform where pedestrians and bicyclists can report troubling roadway incidents directly to state and local law enforcement.
The organization will hold a workshop at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Beale Memorial Library in Downtown Bakersfield, discussing the Street Story program.
The program – developed by UC Berkeley SafeTREC – allows people to report incidents to the Bakersfield Police Department and the California Highway Patrol, and is currently being piloted in Kern County, through a partnership with Bike Bakersfield and Kern Medical.
Bike Bakersfield members will be walking attendees through how to sign up for and use the program.
The workshop is part of a series of events throughout the summer from Bike Bakersfield, offering safety and maintenance workshops at local libraries.
