Wednesday was a day of community fun at Evergreen Elementary School as hundreds of students and their families from the Bakersfield City School District were invited to celebrate each other.
“Now We’re Cooking” is a free monthly cooking class hosted by the Bakersfield City School District.
“This district is so about parent involvement,” said DeeDee Harrison, a coordinator for Family & Community Engagement at BCSD.
For the past two years, the “Now We’re Cooking” program has culminated with the “Now We’re Cooking” Resource Fair.
“Each year it seems to get bigger and better, so we just keep reaching for the next level each time,” Harrison said.
And reach they did. From the salsa eating contest to the talent show, school district employees have been working hard to make this event fun for the entire family.
Community partners like the Bakersfield Police Department and Kern Family Health Care also came out to show parents the wealth of resources within our community.
But dads and moms didn’t just sit on the sidelines –
“What they want is really just some togetherness, family time. So obviously that’s what we got tonight,” said Harrison, after a successful event.
The final “Now We’re Cooking” class is scheduled for Wednesday, May 23 at Rafer Johnson Elementary. You can visit the BCSD website for more details.
