Lots of burgers were flipped and a record amount of money was raised during Wednesday’s barbecue fundraiser with the Bakersfield Homeless Center.
Burgers hit the grill this morning as the fundraiser kicked off outside the KGET studios at 22nd and L streets.
Bakersfield Homeless Center CEO Louis Gill says the homeless center raised more than $23,000 after serving 2,500 burgers.
Gill says those are the highest sales the center has ever had and that money is desperately needed as more and more people are in need help.
“We’ve seen a surge of homeless in Metro Bakersfield. People need to be warm, they’re looking for meals, people need a safe place to stay,” he said.
Gill thanked everybody for coming out and supporting including the sponsors for the event — Halliburton, Walter Mortensen Insurance, Mid Cal Labor and Brimhall Pharmacy.
