Bakersfield has six sister cities and this weekend it plays host to a sister city conference.
A reception was held in the Sister City Gardens at Mill Creek Park on the eve of the conference.
Bakersfield has sister cities in China, Japan, South Korea, Belarus, Mexico and India.
“The work that we do at Sister Cities International is about making connections. It’s about being relevant. It’s about learning about each other, and it’s about having fun. So we bring that to the work that we do,” program president and CEO Roger Mark de Souza said.
“This is an opportunity for people to be engaged and really think about how we’re connected with the rest of the world.”
Representatives from the Northern and Southern California chapters of Sister Cities International and others will be in Bakersfield this weekend for the conference. This is the 62nd anniversary of the Sister City International program.
