Bakersfield SPCA receives grant to improve cat adoption experience

News

The Bakersfield SPCA received a big boost to its cat adoption program thanks to a well known TV personality.

Executive director Julie Johnson made the announcement on KERN Radio 1180 with Scott Cox this morning. The SPCA will be part of the Cat Pawsitive Pro Program next spring. The program is hosted by the Jackson Galaxy Project and greatergood.org.

Johnson says staff and volunteers at the SPCA will learn how to train cats to make them adapt to home life quicker, which will improve the adoption experience.

Jackson Galaxy is known for his Animal Planet show “My Cat from Hell.” Galaxy previously spent 10 years in shelters helping train cats before finding them new homes.

Johnson says the Bakersfield SPCA beat out shelters from across the country to be part of the program.
