Bakersfield ranked as one of state’s least safe cities by home security group


A new list by the National Council for Home Safety and Security, lists Bakersfield as one of the least safe cities in California.

The council releases its list every year, basing its rankings on crime data reported to the FBI.

Out of 265 large cities, Bakersfield ranked 257 for relatively high rates of violent crime and property crime.

The city of Tehachapi was the highest ranked city on the list at No. 44. McFarland was No. 56 on the list.

Other Kern County cities on the list:

  • Shafter at No. 102
  • California City at No. 137
  • Delano at No. 204
  • Arvin at No. 225

Emeryville, which is north of Oakland, was in last place on the list.

First place went to Hillsborough, in San Mateo County, south of San Francisco.
