A celebration of life for late former mayor Harvey L. Hall is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Rabobank Arena.
“Mayor Hall, Dr. Hall, whether you knew him as Mr. Hall, he meant something to so many people in so many ways,” Mark Corum with Hall Ambulance said. “It’s an opportunity to say and reflect on all the good things he’s done for our city.”
Hall died May 19 after being diagnosed with an untreatable disease.
He served as Bakersfield’s longest serving mayor, holding the title for 16 years.
The celebration will take a look back on Hall’s impact on students in the community, his relationship with California State University, Bakersfield’s athletics, his success with Hall Ambulance and more.
Before the ceremony, a procession will take place beginning at the old Golden State Mall, making its way through the streets of downtown, passing by Hall Ambulance before ending at Rabobank Arena.
The public is asked to wear colorful clothing, like Hall often did.
“He was revered for dressing for the occasion,” Courm said. “It’s our hope that people will dress for the happy side of things. Let’s not dress in black. Come out and feel good. Put on your orange and blue and join in the celebration as we remember Mr. Hall.”
In lieu of flowers, the Hall family is asking donations be made to Centennial High School girls basketball team, the Bakersfield Homeless Center or CSUB athletics.
