It was graduation day for the Bakersfield Police Department’s newest recruits.
Eighteen recruits became sworn officers of the department at a ceremony Thursday morning.
Newly sworn in officer Alan Guardado said he was proud of what he’s achieved.
“This is one of the best feelings I’ve ever had in my entire life. It’s been a hard time but it’s been worth it,” he said.
Paul Madriz, a recruit training officer with Bakersfield police, said it’s exciting to see the progress from recruits to officers.
“It’s really a great feeling seeing them starting as just a regular person, off the streets, of all types of different backgrounds, and the end product today where they’re a police officer, they’re motivated and ready to hit the streets.”
The new officers still have months of training before their careers really take off with the department.
