Christmas trees are up and the halls are decked, but something so pretty can turn ugly in seconds as demonstrated Tuesday morning.
A dried-out Christmas tree can go from festive to raging inferno in five seconds.
Fire departments respond to an average of 200 structure fires caused by Christmas trees each winter resulting in injuries, deaths, and millions of dollars in property loss.
This demonstration was put on by the Bakersfield Fire Department and PG&E.
They say it’s important to keep your tree watered through the season and take it out promptly when the holidays are over.
PG&E recommends LED Christmas lights which produce less heat.
