Bakersfield College Drumline wins gold at WGI World Championships

The Bakersfield College Drumline Is returning home as world champions.

The group competed in the WGI World Competition over the weekend in Dayton, Ohio.

The Renegade drumline was crowned the WGI Independent Open Class world champions over the three-day competition.

They took first place out of 15 other groups in the final round.

It’s the first time the BC Drumline has earned a medal in their program’s history.

Cesar Chavez High School team finishes in semifinal round of percussion competition

Delano’s Cesar Chavez High School sent a team to Dayton, Ohio and went further than anyone could have imagined.

The percussion team of 29 advanced to semifinals but finished just short of making the final round of the scholastic world class division by 0.7 points.

It was Chavez’s first time ever competing in the WGI World Championships.

Chavez’s band director Alex Gonzalez told 17 News the team had a great performance and it was a positive experience for the high schoolers.
