Arvin mourns the loss of two students killed in car crash


The City of Arvin is in mourning as they grieve the loss of two students involved in a car crash over the winter break.

7-year-old, Andres Gallardo from El Camino Elementary School, and 17-year-old, Arvin High senior, Emily Moreno were both killed in a car accident on Dec. 22.

In a statement released by the Kern High School District:

“The KHSD community and Arvin High School are grieving the loss of Arvin High senior, Emily Moreno. Emily was an AP student, a member of the decorated We the People Team, and a member of the Arvin High Softball Team. We extend our sincere sympathies to Emily’s family. Grief counselors are currently on campus, and are available to all students and staff during this difficult time.” 

17 News spoke with the principal of Gallardo’s elementary school and shared a few thoughts from his fellow classmates.

“It was all about what he could do and he was a good friend of theirs and liked playing together, and just in love, just in kindness…they spoke about him,” said Principal, Betty Guyton.

Moreno was set to graduate this year and had plans to attend University of California, Davis.
