Arvin city council to discuss ordinance restricting oil production near homes

Arvin’s city council will discuss a proposed ordinance to restrict oil operations near homes.

The ordinance looks to block drilling and other production near areas like schools and homes.

This comes a week after Arvin’s mayor, Jose Gurrola, traveled with five other officials to Sacramento. They delivered a letter, signed by more than 100 elected officials, calling on Gov. Brown to phase out oil production across the state.

The public hearing is Tuesday night, July 3, starting at 6 p.m. at the Arvin City Hall Council Chambers on 200 Campus Drive.
