Amazon could receive millions in incentives from upcoming fulfillment center

County Supervisors are expected to sign off on a deal to bring Amazon to Kern.

The county announced the agreement in August.

Amazon will build a 2-million square-foot fulfillment center near Meadows Field Airport, creating up to 1,000 new jobs, paying an average of $31,000 a year.

The deal is the product of the county’s new Advance Kern economic development program.

It provides rebates on property, sales and use taxes when a business moves in and creates jobs that pay a sustainable wage.

For Amazon, the incentive is worth up to $3 million over the next 10 to 30 years, depending on how many jobs are actually created.
