Charges have been filed against a driver involved in a hit-and-run crash that killed a man in Rosamond last summer.

Kyle Winchell is accused of driving the wrong way on Tehachapi Willow Springs, causing a collision and leaving the scene.

Joseph Bistany, 28, died in the crash.

CHP said Winchell was not part of the collision but illegally tried to pass other drivers. Bistany was driving the opposite direction in Winchell’s path.

Officers say Bistany tried to avoid hitting Winchell head-on and in doing so, caused his car to collide with a truck.

Winchell pleaded not guilty to vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run and is due back in court in January.
