Fishermen from all over Kern County came out to attend the 8th Annual Fishing Derby and Pancake breakfast Saturday morning.
The event was held at the lake at River Walk at 6 a.m. hosted by the Bakersfield Firefighters.
Organizers stocked the lake with 2,000 lbs of Rainbow Trout – tagging 25 of them for a cash prize.
A pancake breakfast came with every entry, and anglers set up their rod to try their chance at snagging an award-winning fish.
“It’s great to put on an event like this, to be able to raise money for a great cause and to have great community support, so we definitely appreciate everyone coming out,” said Deputy Fire Chief John Frando of the Bakersfield Fire Department.
The event is expected to raise $20,000, and a majority of the proceeds will largely benefit local disadvantaged children.
