4 robbery suspects arrested after police pursuit on Highway 99

Four people are behind bars this morning after two reported armed robberies and a brief police chase on Highway 99.

It all started around 10:45 p.m. near the ampm gas station on Ming Avenue. Bakersfield Police Department responded to reports of a robbery in the parking lot. According to the victim, four suspects confronted him with a knife and demanded money, BPD reported. When the victim refused to give money, the suspects fled, according to BPD.

A short time later, suspects matching the description of the first robbery, confronted an additional person near Planz and Wible roads, according to BPD. This time, they brandished a knife and gun, then fled in a gray Jeep, according to police.

Within 30 minutes of the first robbery, BPD attempted to stop a car matching the suspect vehicle description near Panama Lane and Wible Road. The driver initially yielded, but then drove off leading officers on a pursuit, according to police.

The car chase stopped on Highway 99, north of Stockdale Highway when the men stopped their car and attempted to flee on foot.

Police were able to detain all four suspects and they were arrested for robbery, conspiracy and resisting arrest:

-Francisco Alcala, 23
-Kalani Galvan, 22
-Uriel Valdez, 22
-Giovanni Estrada, 22

Galvan, the driver of the car, was also arrested for felony evading, according to police.
