4 cited in sting operation for providing alcohol to minors

The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control and local law enforcement teamed up to bring awareness to the issue of underage drinking.

Bakersfield Police officers participated in the “Shoulder Tap” decoy operation involving nearly 70 law enforcement agencies throughout California.

During the program, minors stand outside a store and ask patrons to buy them alcohol.

Law enforcement officials say they are not targeting any local businesses just individuals who are purchasing alcohol for minors.

According to BPD, it is a misdemeanor to purchase alcohol and furnish to a minor.

As a result of the operation, 47 subjects were contacted and four were found to be in violation of furnishing alcohol to a minor.

The operation netted 330 arrests across the state.
