Thirty spent assault rifle shell casings were found on the right shoulder of Highway 99 during an investigation into a call reporting shots fired at a McFarland residence last month, according to a court document.
The 7.62×39 casings were found after California Highway Patrol officers were called to a report of shots fired around 12:30 a.m. March 14, according to a newly filed search warrant. Evidence of bullet strikes were found on a residence in the 600 block of South Frontage Road, and bullet fragments were collected from outside the residence.
No injuries were reported.
There are 16 security cameras at the residence, officers said in the warrant, but the residents were unable to access the recorded video footage due to technical difficulties. Officers viewed live footage from the cameras and noted the angles and placement of the cameras meant they likley captured the shooting.
The home’s surveillance system hard drive was seized.
