3 people displaced, 12 dogs rescued from house fire on Eye Street

Three people and about a dozen dogs were left without a home after a fire on Eye Street Wednesday night.

Firefighters were called to the 700 block of Eye Street in Central Bakersfield at around 9:20 p.m.

Bakersfield Fire Department Battalion Chief Danny Brown said a fire started in a bedroom and spread to the attic.

Brown said firefighters three people were able to escape and firefighters were able to rescue about eight dogs. In all, about 12 dogs and puppies were rescued from the home.

The Red Cross is helping the three people find a place to stay.

The fire appeared to be “electrical in nature” Brown said. 

No injuries were reported.
